Our Program Overview

The Planet Earth Challenge is an interactive weather and climate assembly for elementary school students. It is a fun competition that involves answering questions that are taught during the program. All the schools that participate each semester are competing for a pizza party and Planet Earth Challenge trophy. The school closest to 100 points will win the grand prize! 

How the Program Started

The Weather Game (Now Called "The Planet Earth Challenge") started by accident 31 years ago in Syracuse, New York. Local TV Meteorologist, Rob Guariano was asked to give out awards to students following a zoo presentation at the school. Unfortunately, the zookeeper was unable to present due to an illness. 

Therefore, Rob was asked to fill in for him for an hour. With just two easels and large pads, Rob created a fun weather game on the fly. The students loved the game so much that Rob decided to make it a rolling show the following school year, and it's been a hit ever since!
